Plenary Session 1
Tuesday September 22, 2026 9:30am - 11:40am GMT+04
Speakers:

Denis Lacej
Design Principal, Gerber Architekten (Germany)
"King Salman Park: Designing a New Green Heart for Riyadh"
King Salman Park is presented as the transformation of a former airfield into a major urban park. It explores how landscape, ecology and infrastructure are integrated through climate-responsive landforms, extensive planting, water management, shaded public spaces and pedestrian networks, offering practical insights into sustainable park design and implementation at metropolitan scale.

Nikoloz Lekveishvili
Co-founder, TIMM Architecture (Georgia)
"Protection as Architectural Communication"
The lecture examines protection as both a physical necessity and a form of architectural communication. Through the Inverted House and House of Iron Doors, it explores how charred timber, heavy envelopes and transformable thresholds can express protection, vulnerability, trust and hospitality. The focus is on tectonic expression, material transformation and the moment when a protective boundary is deliberately opened, turning architecture from shelter into a communicative gesture.

Alireza Taghaboni
Founder & C.E.O, Next Office (Iran)
"Public Sphere: in two scales."
In my presentation, I will discuss how our projects attempt to keep the public realm active within Iran’s current social, economic, and political context. The public realm, institutions, and interactions among people may be among the few means through which we can endure the unstable conditions of the country. This is why these two projects—the Poet’s House and Kish Mixed-Use Center—one operating at a large urban scale and the other at an even larger scale, aim to demonstrate how the public realm can remain active and resilient within an architectural project.
