Egypt Sector: Public Housing (not for single use) · 2026
Egypt's New Capital (NC) is being built 45 km east of Cairo, planned for 6.5 million residents across 220,000 feddan. The client is ACUD, and the lead designer is Dar Al-Handasah. PUD led the international Steering Committee advising on the strategic masterplan for Phases 2 to 4, the 180,000 feddan beyond Phase 1. That masterplan builds on the site's existing assets, integrates urban growth with its ecological systems, and revises the economic and developmental strategy of the city.
Egypt's New Capital has won two gold and two silver medals at the 2024 LivCom Awards, Excellence in Urban Planning at the 2024 Global Brand Awards, and Best Arab Sustainable Development Project 2021. At the Big 5 Egypt Impact Awards 2026, it was recognised for digital transformation and for the District Cooling Plant, the largest in Africa. Its CBD holds the Iconic Tower, Africa's tallest building.
Somou Boulevard is a $1.4B mixed-use hub at the gate of Mostakbal City, adjacent to the New Capital. Steered by PUD, which oversaw consultant selection and advisory, it drives economic development via Egypt’s first AI campus. Built for work-life balance, it prioritises youth with workspaces and leisure along a 2 km pedestrian spine.
